A few weeks ago I stepped down as a maintainer for Fathom (open-source website analytics).
Just updated Mastodon on stinkt.online to v2.6.
- Profile link verification. I really like the approach that was taken here!
- In-stream link previews. No third-party scripts are loaded until you press it, so there is no privacy cost to the convenience.
- Remastered DM's. Nice.
Been running Arch (with Gnome) on my workstation for the last week and am really digging it so far.
All hardware is working right away, system runs super smooth and the official repositories have all the software I really need.
#Hacktoberfest, a month long celebration of open-source software!
We're celebrating along with @usefathom so if you're looking to get that sweet t-shirt this month, check out these issues: https://github.com/usefathom/fathom/labels/Hacktoberfest
All in all; a great week for usefathom.com.
We got our first paying customers and they're happy! We're nowhere close to being able to pay ourselves but hardware costs are covered.
At this rate I'm hoping that with a few months of growth this can be a sustainable effort for all involved so we can lower costs for our early adopters.
We launched Fathom PRO today - and we're on Product Hunt!
Self-host all the things! If you're looking for a good idea of alternatives to services you can self-host on your homeserver or VPS, take a look at this list: https://github.com/Kickball/awesome-selfhosted

The Mastodon update took a bit longer than expected, but we're back and on version 2.5.0!
#MastoAdmins, if your assets:precompile step hangs during the upgrade, make sure your server has enough RAM or swap configured.
stinkt.online will be down for a few minutes while I update Mastodon to version 2.5.0.
The release notes look promising already. https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/releases/tag/v2.5.0
So, Fediverse, need your advice… I need two things:
* Based in the EU
* As ethical as possible given the industry (extra points for green) but definitely not engaged in any surveillance-based shenanigans and, of course, #GDPR compliant
Goal: have people be able to register a domain name and have a VPS set up at it in as little time as possible.
Any suggestions? :)
Needed to convert a MySQL database to Postgres yesterday.
Ran into pgloader, spent 2 minutes on it, done!
Awesome tool! https://pgloader.io/
Selling software as a service, 8 years in and counting.
New project: usefathom.com, open-source website analytics.
stinkt.online is a small Mastodon instance run from a server located in central Europe.
